Language exams

GCSE French and Spanish

The new GCSE, first being examined in the summer of 2018, is much more rigourous that its predecessor, with a hightened emphasis on grammar.  And we can help with that...

We are able to offer both French and Spanish private tuition via Skype. Lynne and Angela are both experienced in delivering this, plus Angela has been a national A level examiner for both languages. Private tuition costs £40 per hour.

Our online GCSE grammar course is a great way to check whether your grammar knowledge is solid. The 10 lessons, with accompanying quizlet exercises and email support, cover the grammar to get a good C grade or above. This costs £70 and the lessons are emailed out weekly.

A Level French and Spanish

A level languages have always been demanding in terms of skills and knowledge and the new A level is no different. It requires a sound grammatical base and excellent speaking and writing skills.

I have taught A level French and Spanish for over 20 years, and am well-versed in the demands of the exam. I have also been a national A level examiner for both languages. Private tuition costs £40 per hour.

French and Spanish diplomas for adults

And for those who don't fancy GCSE Spanish, the Instituto Cervantes offers a series of diplomas known as Diploma Superior como Lengua Extranjera and the French Ministry of Education offers DELF* and DALF** exams. In both cases, there are 6 levels of exam which correlate to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages***  and test the four skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. We can help you prepare for these by

1) assessing your language competence

2) providing you with a program of study

3) providing resources to help you consolidate the language

4) preparing you for the oral exam

*DELF: Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française

**DALF: Diplôme approfondi de Langue Française

*** CFR is a guideline used to describe achievements of learners of foreign languages across Europe further afield. It was put together by the Council of Europe as  main part of the project "Language Learning for European Citizenship" between 1989 and 1996.
